The Alpha Taxiway Project consists of rehabilitating the entire length of the Taxiway as well as connectors A1-A5, portion of Bravo Taixway, portion of Charlie Taxiway, pavement areas between Alpha Taxiway shoulders and the non-movement boundary line, and install new / enhanced airfield markings to meet standards and Part 139 certification requirements. During this project the airport will widen the existing Alpha Taxiway and connectors A1-A5 (64 feet), portions of Bravo Taxiway, and a portion of Charlie Taxiway, to modified Taxiway Design Group (TDG) 5 standards including improved 20 foot wide paved shoulders and new TDG 5 fillets. Rehabilitate airfield pavement north of Alpha Taxiway to the non-movement boundary line. Replace the existing Alpha Taxiway Medium Intensity Taxiway Lighting system with state-of-the-art LED Taxiway lights. Replace existing Type 1 Taxiway and Runway guidance signs with new Type 3 signs to ensure signs don’t become obscured during inclement weather or snow operations. Install new / enhanced markings to meet standards and Part 139 certification requirements.

Project Highlights

Alpha Taxiway and its connectors (A-1, A-2, A-3, A-4, and A-5) is the primarily taxiway for Runways 9/27 that connects aircraft to the main terminal ramp and a variety of business/hangers throughout the airport. The project will consist of:

  • Resurface and widen Alpha Taxiway, Taxiway Connectors A1-A5, and portions of Bravo and Charlie Taxiways.
  • Resurface airfield pavement between the north taxiway edge line to the non-movement line.
  • Replace the existing Medium Intensity Taxiway Lighting system with LED Medium Intensity Taxiway Lighting, including new conduit, fixtures, and regulator.
  • Replace all existing Taxiway directional and hold short signs (airfield wide).
  • Correct several markings not meeting FAA standards.

Alaska Airlines will continue to provide its normal operations during each phase of the construction project. The rehabilitation project will be completed in phases in order to minimize impacts on aircraft operations. There will be temporary closures of Runway 9/27 as the contractor works within the Runway Safety Areas which include the following schedule:

Monday, Tuesday, Wednesday, Thursday, Friday, & Sunday

6:50pm-11:00pm, 12:00am (midnight)-6:00am

Saturday ONLY

6:10pm-6:00am

Operations During Construction

  • Please plan all operations around construction areas to the maximum extent possible.
  • If there are known operations that will be impacted by the proposed schedule, please advise the airport admin office as soon as possible.
  • Do not travel (plane or car) across barricades delineating closed pavement.
  • Do not provide direction to the contractor unless there is an emergency.
